Brief Introduction:
Background: The eastern part of the Yangtse-Huaihe river valley is one of the major areas of rice-wheat production in China. Rice and wheat are believed to have high yields and the techniques of their cultivation are concentrated. In recent years, the scale of rice-wheat production and management has changed. Full mechanization, especially mechanized sowing and transplanting techniques and informational techniques, in growth diagnosis are urgently needed. However, the problems of seasonal conflicts between rice and wheat, low fertilizer and water utilization efficiency in field management, inefficient utilization of straw and matching technologies as well as the mismatching of promotion of agricultural techniques to demand for them in production have become more serious.
Research content: Under the condition of mechanized production in the eastern part of the Yangtse-Huaihe river valley, this program will be focused on identifying the relationships between the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of light and heat resources and rice-wheat cropping system connection and variety matching, fertilizer-water interaction between the rice-wheat cropping system and efficient fertilizer utilization. The aim of the present research will be to develop a series of techniques to solve the above problems, including techniques to realize optimized variety matching of the rice-wheat cropping system, high efficiency of straw turnover and fertilize utilization, equipment for labor saving, and also the big data and informative service for rice-wheat production. A technical model will be proposed based on the production condition and differences in productivity levels, specific restrictive factors in production in the three ecologically variant regions of the south, north and middle parts of Jiangsu Province.
